LEADERSHIP TO KEEP CHILDREN ALCOHOL FREE FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES WEBINAR AND TOOLKIT AS PART OF THE KICK-OFF FOR NATIONAL DRUG FREE WORK WEEK
The first Webinar organized by the Leadership To Keep Children Alcohol Free Foundation will be held on Oct 20, 2009, from 2:00 - 3:30 pm ET. It will mark the official kickoff to National Drug Free Work Week and the culmination of a 10-month development process to create a tool kit to help states evaluate and enhance their drug free workplace programs. For more information about the initiative, click here. The WORKING to Prevent Underage Drinking: Workplace is the Key Toolkit will include an analysis of all the states' laws as they relate to employment testing and employment education, and a discussion guide on drug free workplace programs. It also includes a 4-part PowerPoint educational module that businesses can present to their employees on childhood drinking. Other parts of the toolkit include a piece called "Why Invest" that explains why employers should respond to the underage drinking epidemic outlined in the 2007 US Surgeon General's Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking. To develop the toolkit and webinar program, the Leadership has partnered with the U.S. Department of Labor's Working Partners division and Working Partners of Columbus Ohio, as well as CSAP, Ohio's Bureau of Workers Compensation, the Levin Family Foundation, and others. The goal is to bring this free electronic resource to Leadership members and community coalitions. The webinar offers a time for key personnel in state government to learn the details together. The toolkit is an excellent way to educate working parents on what they can do to prevent and reduce childhood drinking. The webinar will feature Leadership member, First Lady Frances Strickland; Elena Carr of the Department of Labor; Dee Mason and Jim Ryan of Working Partners; and Hope Taft, President of the Leadership Foundation.
